The Election commission of India( E.C.I), a body created by the Constitution of India, has been given the responsibility of managing  choices impartially in India. They’re headed by one Chief Election Commissioner and 2 Election Officers.   The Election Commission of the India We may observe that with the  commencement in 1950 it was a single member body with the Chief Election Commissioner as the sole member.

Role and Function of The Election Commission of India

As per the Amendment Act of The Election Commissioner Amendment Act, 1989 the election Commission of India was made multi-member with two fresh election officers on 16 October 1989. formerly again, it abolished this post of election officers on 1 January 1990. On 1 October 1993, the Election Commission was again made a three-member body. The headquarters of the Commission is located at ‘ Nirvachan Sadan’ in New Delhi.

They’re  farther  supported by Directors General, star registers, and registers. The Chief Election Commissioner doesn’t hold any overriding authority and any decision is through the accreditation of the maturity which in this case is three.  At the countries and union homes, the Election Commission is supported by the Chief Electoral Officer of the state or union home( CEO), who leads the election ministry in the countries and union homes. At the quarter and constituency situations, the District Adjudicators/ District Collectors( in their capacity as District Election Officers), Electoral Registration Officers and Returning Officers perform election work.  

The Election Commission of India is a body  naturally empowered to conduct free and fair  choices to the  public, the State Legislative Assemblies, State Legislative Councils and the  services of the President andVice-President. The Election Commission operates under the powers granted by Composition 324 of the Constitution and  latterly  legislated Representation of the People Act. The state election commissions are responsible for conducting original body  choices in the  separate  countries.

The election commission decides the dates for the form of nominations, voting, counting and  advertisement of results.  It issues a Model Code of Conduct for political parties and  campaigners to  insure that the  choices are conducted in a free and fair manner. The law of Conduct was issued for the first time in 1971 for the 5th Lok Sabha  choices and has revised it from time to time. It lays down guidelines for the conduct of political parties and  campaigners during an election period.( 18) Cases of violation of the  law by  colorful political parties and abuse of  sanctioned  ministry by the  campaigners are dealt according to the law. 

A law for the enrollment  process for political parties was  legislated in 1989. The enrollment  ensures that the political parties are  honored as  public, state and indigenous parties. The election commission has the right to  lot symbols to the political parties depending on the status. The same symbol can not be allocated to two political parties indeed if they do n’t  dispute in the region. 

The commission prepares electoral rolls and updates the namer list. To  help electoral fraud, Pickers Photo Identity Cards( EPIC) were introduced in 1993. still certain legal documents  similar as portion cards have been allowed for voting in certain situations.  The commission is empowered to  enjoin the dispersion or publication of advancing trends that seek to  impact choosers by opinion  pates or exit  pates.  Scrutiny of, as well as acceptance of  operations submitted, by willing  rivals, by the Election Commission.

The commission appoints officers from the Indian Revenue Service of the Income Tax Department as Election spectators. The commission takes details of the  seeker’s assignment in an affidavit at the time of submitting the nomination paper, and they’re also  needed to furnish details of their expenditure within 30 days of the  protestation of the results.  In support of  colorful functions, including the redressal of grievances and checking electoral rolls, spreading information about  campaigners,  protestation of results, and monitoring of assigned tasks, the election commission runs electronic media  similar as websites and mobile  operations.
